This
is the technique that is done by many surgeons. In this
technique, the sympathetic nerves are cut either by electrocautery
or by sharp scissors. This technique is easier to perform,
than the clipping technique. However, many authorities
feel that, by using electrocautery and manipulating the
nerves, there is more chance of injury to the surrounding
tissues and nervous structures, and more chance of compensatory
sweating and other side effects. The other disadvantage
of this method is the difficulty reversing the operation
as compared to the clipping method.
